13 August 2025 - We’re excited to share that our Co-Founder and CTO, Josephin Holstein, recently joined the Cambridge Tech Podcast to talk about her journey from academia to entrepreneurship and how Evoralis is pioneering sustainable solutions for textile and plastic recycling.
Originally spun out from the University of Cambridge, Evoralis was founded by a team of postdoctoral researchers passionate about applying biochemical innovation to the circular economy. Our mission: to enable true, sustainable recycling of plastics through cutting-edge enzyme technology.
Josephin explains how our ultra-high-throughput microfluidic screening platform allows us to screen up to 10 million enzyme candidates per day which is around 1,000 times faster than conventional methods. This speed is key to finding the most effective enzymes to break down a wide range of plastics, particularly challenging blends found in textiles.
While we remain in the R&D phase, our goal is to deliver our first commercial enzymes within the next year. Collaboration is at the heart of this journey, and Josephin stresses the importance of working with partners for enzyme production and recycling at scale, rather than building our own factories.
The conversation also covers the realities of biotech entrepreneurship – from navigating investor discussions to the persistence required to bring high-impact technologies to market.
